This may be a silly question, does the water in a central heating header tank get hot? When I tin my loft today the lid on mine was slightly off and I noticed the lagging was slightly damp in one corner where it was lifted. Is this condensation?

The water level was low in the header tank and Very brown.

perfectly normal.
3-4'' of water, it gets hot as it expands up the vent pipe-into tank and back down heating system. only thing you need to check is the pump speed is set right to minimise pumping over ie thats too much of a cycle of water occuring.
good idea to tie up ball rooster and wet n dry-vac tank clean why your at it as that ends up back in the system.
