What's a Durgo Valve and where do you put them? What is there point?

I live in a new build and the Durgo Valve is in the loft space on the top of the soil pipe? is that right? The soil pipe vents to the atmosphere anyway...

Air admittance valve, lets air in to prevent a syphon and issues when flushing toilets or pulling plugs etc.

Generally fitted when it would be difficult to vent to atmosphere.

You still need one soil connection vented to atmosphere
