Remove screw holding X handle to shaft, unscrew or lift off shroud to reveal hexagon head on brass section which unscrews

looks like the cross heads are one piece to the spindle!
get a boa constrictor or piece of rubber like cycle innertube and wrap around the valve cover-the domed bit to give grip and prevent the chrome scratching. then get some grips on to unscrew it.
make sure you dont over squeeze the grips or the dome will dig into thread and deform it.
std pillar tap off solid wood work top with belfast sink i recon?
